What is PMS?
So what exactly is PMS?
Premenstrual Syndrome causes both emotional and
physical changes in women prior to menstruation. Refered to as simply
"PMS", nearly 40% of all women commonly experience some
of the more than 150 symptoms associated with it. These symptoms
range from physical aspects such as breast tenderness, nausea, and
acne, to emotional symptoms like anger and irritability.
Of the women who experience PMS, symptoms vary
significantly from one woman to the next, and from cycle to cycle.
Approximately 20-40% of all women who live with PMS 2.5 to 5% of
those suffer from debilitating symptoms which make life extremely
difficult.
In a nutshell PMS represents the physical and
psychological symptoms that occur in the week before a woman's menstrual
period. Symptoms may include bloating, headache, irritability, anxiety
or depression, low self-esteem, difficulty sleeping, changes in
appetite, fatigue, and breast swelling and tenderness.
