What Causes PMS?
While the exact cause of PMS is still unclear
there are a number of factors that are considered to be contributing
factors. These include physiological, nutritional, genetic, and
behavioral factors. Currently there are no diagnostic tests for
PMS, although they may be used to rule out other conditions in women
who suffer from extreme symptoms. Emotional and physical changes
that come along side a woman’s menstrual cycle are typically
a strong indicator of PMS.
Heredity also appears to be a contributing factor
however it is very common that the specific symptoms will vary between
mothers, daughters, and sisters.
Some women suffer from extreme symptoms
while others experience mild effects. Many believe that PMS stems
from a neurochemical change within the brain. Hormonal factors such
as variations in estrogen levels have more recently been considered
as a contributing factor.
